The NFT Yacht Is Still The Most Expensive NFT Ever Sold

The world’s first NFT yacht sale was a $12 million yacht NFT minted and sold via Opensea on the Ethereum blockchain to a Texas businessman.

The anonymous Texan businessman will also receive a real-life yacht, which will be built in Canada by Tactical Custom Boats and Cloud over the following 36 months. According to the businessman :

“We like the idea of pioneering a new process. The NFT could prove useful in ways I had never imagined – like having all the data from my vessel at my fingertips. It will be a real adventure.”

Gregory C Marshall, an award-winning naval architect, will oversee the construction of the luxury superyacht. He’s never worked with non-fungible tokens before:

“Everyone is still trying to figure out how the process will work. In fact, the initial crypto payment went to the wrong payee. We had it sorted out in an hour and had a good laugh about it. But we all recognize that mistakes will be made during the process.”

Cloud Yachts will also issue a second NFT to the owner once the project is done. Its metadata will have all of the traits and information required for any sailor to take that Yacht out to sea.

This sale does not officially qualify for our ranking of the top 10 most expensive NFTs of all time because it includes a boat.

That honour is still held for works by NFT artists like Pak and Beeple (whose First 5000 Days NFT sold for $69.3 million at Christie’s) as well as some of the most coveted CryptoPunks.

Several more boat NFTs are being advertised in international yachting destinations such as the Palm Beach International Boat Show, thus the scale of this NFT yacht sale could be surpassed shortly.
