Di Iorio is well-known for his work with Ethereum, which he started in 2013 with Vitalik Buterin. The Ethereum network has arguably grown into one of the largest crypto-based platforms in the world, attracting a slew of developers looking to launch new coins and expand the world of decentralised applications based on EFT’s technology and smart contract capabilities.
Di Iorio has indicated that “personal safety” is one of his reasons for leaving crypto. He claims that he has required a security crew to accompany him wherever he goes or to meet him at particular locations since 2017. He appears to be scared of being alone at 48 years old, however he has not revealed why.
“It’s got a risk profile that I am not too enthused about,” said Di Iorio, who declined to disclose his cryptocurrency holdings or net worth. “I don’t feel necessarily safe in this space. If I was focused on larger problems, I think I’d be safer.” he said
Di Iorio’s net worth is estimated to be about $1 billion. He also made waves when he used digital money to purchase one of Canada’s largest penthouses. The three-story house is located in Toronto’s St. Regis Residences complex.
The property is currently worth almost $22 million, indicating that the Ethereum co-creator has achieved considerable success in his industry.
Nonetheless, he believes the moment has come for him to leave. He estimates that his company Decentral will be worth “hundreds of millions of dollars,” and he intends to sell it for fiat money rather than cryptocurrency. He says, “I want to diversify to not being a crypto guy, but being a guy tackling complex problems. I will incorporate crypto when needed, but a lot of times it is not. It is really a small percentage of what the world needs. I am a crypto guy, and I do not want to be known as a crypto person. I want to be known as a problem solver.”
